The holder of an EASA-PPL is permitted to fly an aircraft with a take off weight that does not exceed 5700kgs, during daylight hours in visibility greater than 3km whilst remaining in sight of the ground at all times. They can carry passengers but are not allowed to fly for reward or payment. A holder of an EASA-PPL license may, with the correct instructor or examiner privileges, receive remuneration for flight instruction for up to PPL level.
If you have an EASA or national UK aeroplane license you can apply for a limited form of instrument rating. This is not normally recognized outside the UK but a lot simpler to obtain. This is an Instrument Metrological Conditions (IMC) rating, which can be endorsed as an Instrument Rating (restricted), the I/R(R) on a Part-FCL license.
LAPL is similar in concept to the old National PPL, but is valid for the whole of Europe and most kinds of aircrafts up to 2000kg and allows you to carry up to four people on private flights. It is valid on any UK and European registered aircraft.
If you have an EASA PPL or LAPL, you can add night rating to allow you to fly under visual flight rules (VFR) conditions at night. Night in UK aviation is defined as the period between 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise. As part of your PPL, you will have mastered basic flying skills. The Night Rating course will enhance these skills and enable you safely fly during the hours of darkness and enjoy the night sky, and the city lights!
